All Souls Baptist Church names cathedral after Rev. Dr Osei-Wusuh

All Souls Baptist Church at Adoato-Adumanu in Kumasi has named an ongoing building meant to be a cathedral after the immediate past President of the Ghana Baptist University College (GBUC), Rev. Dr Kojo Osei-Wusuh.

A foundation stone for the building of the cathedral was laid on December 25, 2012, with actual construction works beginning in November 2013.

Funding has periodically come from church members through annual fundraisings, family, and friends of the Head Pastor of the church, Rev. Dr Amanfo Ayim-Nyarkoh, who doubled as the Registrar of the GBUC.

The building formed part of the five-year development plan of the church which was developed by church authorities in 2013.

When completed, the cathedral will seat 1,500 congregants and will have a 200-capacity social centre, library, gallery, baptistery, conference room, food and cloth bank, pastor’s refresher centre, and offices for all departments of the church.

The cathedral is estimated to cost GH¢4 million, out of which GH¢ 300,000 has already been spent on the building which is expected to be disability friendly.

Immortalising Rev. Dr Osei-Wusuh

Rev. Dr Ayim-Nyarkoh, at a ceremony to officially name the building after Rev. Dr Osei-Wusuh, said the latter had done tremendously well in Baptist Ministry circles and the church deemed it necessary to immortalise him by naming the building after him.

He recalled that Rev. Dr Osei-Wusuh had been President of the Ghana Baptist Convention (GBC) for three terms, Head Pastor for Grace Baptist Church, Amakom, for the past 25 years, and President of the GBUC.

Currently, he said, the retiree was a Board Member of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) and the President of the Forum for Christians Against Corruption (FoFCAC) recently launched by him in Kumasi.

He further recalled that through the efforts of Rev. Dr Osei-Wusuh, 13 Ghana Baptist churches had been established in America and Canada, adding that he had helped in nurturing a number of Baptist ministers.

He also recalled that during his time at GBUC, he implemented a number of his own initiatives, including the introduction of Spiritual Emphasis Week, the addition of two schools to the existing two schools of the university and the introduction of a course in Personal Development.

His efforts to lead Kumasi Baptist Churches to support the Women Missionary Union’s initiative to rehabilitate the Retreat Centre at Ejura can also not be forgotten.

Again, he mentioned that Rev. Dr Osei-Wusuh initiated the Grace Fellowship Incorporated (GRAFTI) and Centre for Community Empowerment  (CEFORCE), helping to reach over 25,000 souls for Christ.

The Vice-President, Administration of the GBC, Rev. Komla Darke, expressed appreciation to Rev. Dr Osei-Wusuh for his initiatives and contributions to both the GBC and GBUC.

He added that naming the cathedral after him would not be enough, saying that the GBC had a lot more to do in appreciation of the “good works of Rev. Dr Osei-Wusuh”.

Greatness is about service

The Methodist Bishop of the Kumasi Diocese, Rt Rev. Christopher Adam Nyarko, emphasised that worshipping or serving in humility was paramount in Christian circles.

He said Jesus Christ exhibited humility when he washed the feet of His disciples and by that conduct instilled a sense of greatness to all his followers who were ready to serve others.

“In Christianity, service to humanity, service to the Church, and service to God remain key to greatness,” he stated to buttress his point.

He, however, called on Rev. Dr Osei-Wusuh never to relent in his efforts to fight corruption and join active Baptist ministers in winning more souls for the Lord.

Nananom from Nkwantakese and Kokofu traditional areas were there to grace the occasion.
